| A little about me - Linda was adopted by Brian and Sue Carver in February of 2008. Soon thereafter, the Carvers received a phone call from the case manager of Linda’s biological brother, Cain. The case manager said that Cain wanted to visit with Linda, and would the Carvers be interested in bringing her to see him. During this visit, Sue said that it was clear that Linda and Cain had missed being together as brother and sister, and it was seeing this bond that initiated the Carver’s pursuit of adopting Cain, also. In April of 2009, Cain’s adoption was finalized, and the family was complete. Since then, the siblings have thrived. “They both have changed since being a part of the family,” Sue said. “They get to be teenagers now.” Cain has tried out for the football team, Linda’s trying to get her driver’s license, and both like attending school functions like dances and sporting events. They have friends over often and have both shifted from being rather shy to being sociable and talkative. Their grades have gotten better, and they have dreams of going to college. Life has changed for Brian and Sue, too. “There is never a dull moment. They keep us busy all of the time,” Sue said. “It’s such a wonderful change for us.” Sue said that she loves coming home from work to her children’s smiling faces and greetings, and that they can make her forget a bad day in an instant. Extended family members and friends often comment that Cain and Linda look like Brian and Sue, and treat the teens like they are the Carver’s natural born children. “They are such a joy to have in our lives,” Sue said. “I cannot remember my life before Linda and Cain.” |
