One Facebook Share Later, A Family Was Begun
Taking a break in the middle of a busy day, Paige began scrolling through her Facebook news feed and saw a photo that changed her life. A friend had shared a post about a teen who had just been listed on the Heart Gallery of Pinellas and Pasco. Felicia was looking for a family but it wasn’t just her sweet smile that drew Paige in – it was the dog tags she was wearing. Felicia didn’t just talk about supporting our nation’s Armed Forces, she lived it through acts of service and carried a reminder every day. Part of a military family herself, Paige was intrigued.
With an active duty husband, Paige sent a quick text not knowing when James would see it but knowing that her family’s path was now an adoption journey. Active duty military families are all too familiar with their lives taking unexpected turns, and the path to adoption day was no exception including getting scheduled to finalize their adoption on April Fool’s Day. On April 1, 2015, Felicia’s adoption was finalized in a room filled with friends and family. She became part of the family long before. Thanks to a supporting community of friends and family, Felicia was welcomed home with an adoption shower – “It’s a TEEN GIRL.” A family with a sense of humor, Felicia became Cadence with adoption announcements fashioned to look like birth announcements!
The family has grown to become adoption advocates both online and in their community. Knowing their family story started with a share, Paige and her social media community now share the stories of the children who have followed Felicia on the Heart Gallery hoping that other children will find their way home thanks to showing up on someone’s Facebook News Feed.
