The mission of the Heart Gallery is to increase the number of successful adoptions of local children in foster care. In addition to featuring children, we recruit and support families interested in adoption. The Heart Gallery was founded on the belief that every child deserves a home.

Siblings Find Forever

After inquiring into adoption through the Heart Gallery, Cheryl & Bobby Miller were excited to begin meeting the children that they had already begun to see in their dreams.  While they were first interested in other Heart Gallery kids, the Miller’s found that their strengths were a better match for two siblings they hadn’t yet thought about adopting.

Zachary and Tyler first met their future parents at a Tampa Bay Rays baseball game before seeing them again at a fall match event.  The family bonded over pizza and games.  While they got along, the boys were reluctant to move forward.  After many conversations with the tuned-in case management team from Youth and Family Alternatives in partnership with Eckerd Connects ready to “unpack the no,” the boys felt ready to move forward.  For young men excited about doing well in school & sports, addressing their concerns included lots of visits and delaying moves to better coordinate with everyone’s needs and give time for the family to learn about each other and how to be a family together.  Visits included enjoying additional games in the Home Run Club Suite thanks to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Just over nine months after their first meeting, Zachary and Tyler became part of a forever family on August 12, 2016.   At each adoption, the Judge will ask questions of each member of the family.  This becomes especially important when the adoptees are older children who must testify and state that they wish to be adopted.  Our favorite question – why?  Why you, why this family, why now?  The Miller family’s answer was the answer we love to hear – “we love them, and they love us.”
